電話交換機(jī)是一種特殊用途的用戶交換機(jī)。它有若干電話機(jī)共用外線，適用于機(jī)關(guān)、團(tuán)體、中小企業(yè)等單位，也可以用于住宅和秘書電話。

集團(tuán)電話交換機(jī)不需要專職的話務(wù)員和維護(hù)人員，每部都可以通過指示燈了解整個(gè)系統(tǒng)的工作情況。當(dāng)外線呼入時(shí)，可由任意一部話機(jī)應(yīng)答，并可以轉(zhuǎn)給所需的被叫。任何一部話機(jī)要呼外線時(shí)，只要按下代表空閑外線的相應(yīng)鍵，即可撥號(hào)呼叫外線。
